Proliferetion marker PCNA and Ki-67 in oral cancer - aN immunohistochemical evaluation

Abstract
In order to demonstrate a relationship between exposure factors and tumor biological parameters a group of 64 primary oral squamous cell carcinomas, were evaluated using immunohistochemistry (IHC) for expression of PCNA and Ki-67. We collect data and correlate to the exposure factors smoking, alcohol, oral infections, dental factors.
When compared with matched controls, only oral infections, and reported HSV-infections in particular, gave statistically significant OR (odds ratio) for all tumors. None of these cell proliferation and apoptosis associated parameters showed any clear influence on prognosis.
